Santa's Elves!

Concord Families, I want to take time to thank you for caring and sharing with our families during this season.  As our families received their gifts of food, cleaning supplies and presents for their children they shared much gratitude.  Some of our families best expressed their gratitude through tears of joys, some expressed their gratitude with big smiles and extended multiple thanks.   I was asked to extend the appreciation to you and to our students.  One parent said,  "You have no idea how much this helps."   Together we spread some love, peace and joy in our own community.  Thank you for caring and sharing... Twas the night before Christmas and all though the hallways....

Tips to Control Your Anger!

Image
We are discussing how each person is responsible for controlling their energy and recognizing the way our bodies talk to us.  If we become familiar with our own body talk we will have a better chance to do something about our emotions and handle our energy instead of our energy or emotions handling us! Please encourage a few techniques when you notice your child's energy entering the yellow/caution zone. I shared with the kid's that counting to 10 does not work for me.   Instead or counting to ten,  I repeat a positive phrase in my head slowly until I gain a more comfortable balance.  My phrase is " I can do this."   Let it go... Ask yourself, "Is it really worth it?"  If your answer is no - let it go!  If your answer is yes, get yourself ready to do the work needed to make positive difference!

Peaceful Present

Image
Hawn State Park, Farmington, Missouri - During flyer vision today we practiced the skill of clearing our minds by focusing on the rolling stream in this video.  I encouraged the students to erase thoughts that enter into their mind during this exercise and only focus on the water and it's peace.  We practiced this exercise for 30 seconds.   I hope our children will begin to recognize when their minds are clamoring in different directions and learn to pull their focus to the now.     This is a skill we all can practice to help us enjoy the present.

Study Skills K-5

Image
Our counseling lesson this past rotation focused on habits for being a good student.  We spoke repeatedly about good sleep habits every night, good nutrition (fruits/vegetables/protein/water) throughout each day, and daily exercise and play!           We also incorporated writing within our lesson to show the habits we already own or need to own.  Feel free to stop by and read our entries outside the counseling room and across the hall from our library.
