Kids on Social Media

Please have conversations about the safety rules for social media with your children.  Social media agreements are for kids 13 and older .  Let's keep our young kids safe. *Operate with the thinking that pictures and posts are not private even if privacy setting are checked.   Think before you post. *Be aware of location settings for Instagram, Snap Chat, Musical.ly, Facebook  - Are you letting strangers know your exact current location? *Only follow people you have met in person. Think twice before letting someone follow you. *Only talk to people you have met in person.  Do not talk to strangers online. * Our children are starting their digital imprint that will follow them for life.  There are independent  companies that break down privacy settings to view your profiles.  Protect yourself. *Stop, Block and Report (trusted adult or website/app) if you feel uncomfortable online.

Recognizing negative energy is a key to improving relationships and in guidance.  After you recognize this negative energy, be willing to be kind and allow time for repair.  Consider giving yourself and your child or spouse the permission to stop talking. Perhaps the silence and space will help you catch your breath and give you time to find reason and a common ground.  After a good pause of silence, consider giving each other permission to "Start Over."  Go ahead and ask, "Can we start over?"  Let them know you are sorry for your reaction or for the events and energy that has lead to the situation at hand.  Change the subject and enjoy your time together; embrace the love you have for each other - above all else.  If a deep conversation needs to take place and solutions need to be discussed - be patient.  Maybe now is not the time for this talk; soon, but not yet.  Productive conversation can take a lot of energy.
