Career Exploration K-5

We are beginning our Career Exploration Unit with kindergarten through fifth grade at Concord Elementary.  Kindergarten through second grade will be exploring workers we know in our community and discuss our current interests as well as explore the reasons why people work in their community.
Third through fifth grade students will begin exploring a program called, Career Trek

Third grade students will view careers by selecting categories of interest by people, ideas or things.  They will also be able to view careers choices and their level of physical activity, use of numbers, use of words, time spent outdoors, education level, and wage level.

Fourth grade students will explore occupations based on six personality types:  Doer, Thinker, Creator, Helper, Leader and Organizer (simplified Holland Types).

Fifth grade students will make connections between desirable skills for selected occupations.  Students will rate themselves "good at" or "need to improve" to best match their skills to their occupation list at this time.

Our hope at the elementary level is for our students to explore a wide range of career choices and begin to understand and make connections with the career path/colors on the poster shown at the top of this page.  Some career paths/colors will identify student hobbies and interests, while other career paths/colors will point students in a direction to best align with their current interests, skills, passions and strengths to make a positive impact as a worker in our community.
